DIY Tie Dye Shoes

Photo taken by me

Hello guys! So I actually got inspired to do this project! So I attempted to do one for myself!
But anyways! I'm still excited to show you guys how to do your own Tie Dye shoes! It's really simple and a very fun project to do!

WHAT YOU NEED:

1. White Shoes:

Any white shoes will do, it's up to you :)
I purchased mine from H&M for RM40

2. Tie Dye/Batik Dye
I used Batik Dye for this project. I actually recommend you to use Tie Dye if you want a more faded and a more natural look but either way the results will turn out almost the same. I used Batik Dye as an alternative for this project because I couldn't actually find them dyes in the arts and crafts store I was already in.
So I purchased these Batik Dyes at Art Friend at The Gardens for RM 6.90 (if I'm not mistaken. I'm so sorry) each bottle of dye.
The colours are:
Lemon Yellow, Vermillion, Fairbro Red, Sky Blue, Veridian Green

3. Newspapers
You wouldn't wanna get paint all over your table/floor

4. Kain Buruk
To wipe of any paint that might accidentally drip on the rubber part of your shoe

(ok i admit I don't know what kain buruk is in English and I asked you guys on Twitter and this is what some of you guys said;
-Rag
-Bad cloth
-Horrible cloth
-Ugly cloth
hahaha)

5. Masking Tape
To guard the dye from reaching the rubber parts of your shoe.

LET'S DO THIS!

Step 1:  Remove them laces, brotha!!

Step 2:

By using the masking tape, cover the whole rubber part of the shoe to prevent mess from the paint :)

Step 3: I placed a kain buruk into the shoe to prevent the dye from reaching the insides of the shoe but this is totally optional because things are gonna get messy anyway (but nah just do it)

Step 4:
(Note: You can do in any combinations you want but if you're gonna do my method, just read the following)

Ok so I did it in this sequence:
Yellow, Orange, Red, Blue, Green
So go on and just apply the yellow first

Moving on with orange and don't worry when you overlap the colours, that is part of the process
Then with red! :B

Moving on with the colour blue. Go on over the red dye a little to create a purple colour. Don't worry if things looks messy because trust me, the finishing product would look alright <3
Next, continue on with the colour green

So this is how everything the shoes look like after I dyed the shoes with all the colours.

Step 5: Place the shoe in a plastic like so...

While the shoe is in the plastic, roll the shoe like a sushi roll...ok maybe not sushi rolls.
Shoeshi rolls! hahahah ok nevermind.
Like so.
Step 6:
Place it in a box or wherever you like.
Somewhere where it isn't too humid.
Let them sit for 7 to 8 hours or overnight.

So after 8 hours/overnight, it's time to...
Step 7:
....Put them into the washing machine.

Set the water level, quick wash and a quick spin
Washing with a washing machine will give a more faded and more natural look to the shoe.

[You can wash manually by using detergent and water in a pail and let it be for about 10-15 minutes]
(Note: Do not scrub if you're gonna wash manually)
But, I still recommend the washing machine though

Step 8: Let it dry
And once you let the shoes out of the washing machine, you just let them sit out in a sunny area and wait for it to dry
Step 9:
And yeah, after your shoes are dry, you just put them laces back!

AND YOU'RE DONE! WHOOHH!

I actually do like the finishing product.
These shoes are very fashionable and they go great with casual outfits!

Have fun! <3
If you do actually do this project maybe one day!
